Barrell Rum Private Release J657 Rum

Founder Joe Beatrice and the team at Barrell Craft Spirits have made an art out of seeking exceptional barrels and blending them into unique cask-strength expressions. While this usually involves whiskey, other spirits aren’t out of the question ― rum especially. This expression is a part of their Private Release Series, a project of small-scale blending that allows for extreme precision. J657 Rum is centered around Jamaican rum that makes up 65% of the final blend, the rest being Barbados & Guyana rum, as well as a Martinique rhum agricôle. The blend is then married in a single cask, which was an Indiana rye whiskey cask in this case. The rum is bottled at a cask strength of 131.64 proof.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.
